Sunday 14: Away match at Fontaine-Couverte – Le Moulin CC

Saturday 6: La Roche cancelled the game, due to lack of players. Still, we found something to do. More gardening… and a bit of practice after that!

The sprinkler is down – but the river is just there…

MAY 2009

May 25. First home match of the season cancelled, due to excessive rain and thunderstorms… The pitch is STILL too soft.

Saturday, 2. Mac and Vincent were invited by Thierry and Isabelle Gardener, of the association GardenSchool (St Avertin near Tours) to hold an introduction session for children and youth. Everyone had a great time under sunny skies and we have good hopes of having some of the kids enjoying cricket in the near future.

MARCH 2009

Hello sunshine. Here are a few interesting items.

1) The new season opens on April 18, with our first-ever indoor tournament.

APRIL 18, SAUMUR, GYMNASE DU VIGNEAU, Rue des Vendanges

Start of Play at 11.00

So far, 3 teams are registered: Saumur, Nantes and La Roche sur Yon. All players must be licensed. This competition could almost have official standing. Perhaps next year we can hold the national indoor championship… The regulations will soon be available. And score sheets as well.

As we have the gym at our complete disposal for the week-end, we’ll have more practice on Sunday 19.

2) The fixture list is now quite settled. Think of your availability…

3) What about the state of the pitch? We’ll go to the Rives du Thouet Saturday morning after practice and make an assessment. But certainly we’ll try to get some outdoors practice as soon as possible!

4) If not done already, think of your medical and subs… or you won’t like me when I’m angry!

5) The Ligue des Pays de Loire is getting bigger: La Roche sur Yon is officially affiliated to France Cricket. 2 grass wickets in the same region! A real blessing!

6) Federal news: Marc Louvigny (Nantes) has joined me at the Comité Directeur of France Cricket, in the election that took place on Sunday 15. I have also submitted my candidature for election at the Fédération, hopefully to further the interests of cricket in France. We certainly will need your support in this arduous task!

7) Umpiring: AFNEC Président David Rhodes will hold an umpiring course on April 26 in Nantes. The price is 30 €.

8) I think that’s all.

PRACTICE

– Every Saturday morning

– Gymnase du Vigneau, rue des Vendanges

– from 9 until 10.30 – until further notice!

November 2008

You’ll find a couple more links in the Cricket Links section. Try them out. In particular an Aussie radio show…

Just as reminder on 2008 Awards:

  • Matt Foreman : Joueur de l’Année
  • Andy German : Meilleure Performance (118* contre CC des Ormes)
  • Romain Bernard – Guillaume Arrivé : Débutants de l’Année
  • Peter Valace : Canard à l’orange

More on 2009 fixtures: Our First Indoor Tournament should be taking place on April 18 and 19.

  • The Brunswick Boys should be with us, just like last year, on the last week-end of June.
  • 2009 Siddalls’ Cup finals will take place on the penultimate (and not the last, alas) week-end of August.
  • Still a lot of uncertainty regarding the beginning of the season…

On November 3, Marc Louvigny was interviewed on Radio Pru’n (Nantes). Here is a link so you can listen to that interview (starts after 10 minutes).

At the November 8 AGM, the new Bureau has been designated – refer to the Who are we? Page.
